Why farmers use it
- Potash is essential for plant growth and development.
- Potash helps protect crops from bad weather such as drought, hail and frost, and from insects and diseases.
- Because potash moves easily inside the plant, its deficiency shows up as brown streaks on the lower leaves. Plants short of potash wilt quickly, because potash controls the opening and closing of the stomata (leaf pores).
